Thanks to both of you; I appreciate the well wishes from everyone. Congratulations to you as well, weakonomist; you'll have to let me know how your wedding goes, so I can steal any good money-saving tips you might have for a wedding ceremony. I do consider her a very sensible (well, frugal, if somewhat goofy and ditzy at times) person, and the ring is well in line with personality.

As to her grandmother, I can certainly understand where she's coming from, and since I want my Sondra to succeed just as much as her family wants her to succeed, I am willing to wait to marry my wonderful girl.

Congrats! :) My parents had similar rules about paying for college and getting married. Though a great deal of my non-scholarship money came from my grandfather's will and he didn't put in any marriage clauses I know of.

We were together 5 years before we got married and it was well worth the wait.

She also sounds like a sensible person, picking out a ring that's inexpensive but makes her happy. :)

Congrats! I got engaged last year. We're getting married this fall. Good luck with grandma, she sounds like my grand father (minus the paying for college thing!)
