Thoroughly agree with you on this one. There's some truly bad financial advice and fundamentally wrong advice available out on the pf blogosphere...

Budgeting and saving advice is easy to dish out and not often wrong (spending less than what you earn), however when it concerns investing and how to invest your funds and structure your investments - that's when you've got to be wary and read material from various source rather than reading just one blogger's advice and opinion.

Before taking action with your money, if you know that you're a newbie, you should read a LOT and educate yourself first before taking the leap. If you're in debt, most the personal finance bloggers are on the ball in terms of debt reduction strategies.

Cheers :)

David,

Welcome to the blog, and thanks for the comment. You're quite right, most companies simply aren't offering pensions anymore. And while 401(k)s do have their pluses, they are definitely at the mercy of the market, for better or for worse.

The advice about the 401k is particularly good considering the way the market has been moving. As for company pensions a lot of companies simply don't have them anymore.
