I have always been fascinated with fables since I was a child. My all-time favorite is The Ant and the Grasshopper. I think it's one great story of hard work and security. Saving for the rainy days is a good financial strategy. You never know when another recession would come.

@Insurance Plus: Yup, it does sound pretty yummy, but the whole point is about the value of waiting, and not getting greedy and impatient.

@Texas Home Insurance: It is pretty simple, although it's amazing how unconventional 'conventional wisdom' can be at times.

Useful financial lessons? hidden in plain sight in the fables of Aesop? Maybe just more like conventional wisdom.

There is a great deal of wisdom in these stories, and I thought I should try to explore that. I like 'The Tortoise and the Hare', but 'The Goose who Laid the Golden Eggs' was always my favorite.

Great idea to apply the morals of these fables to personal finance! There is a lot of wisdom in these stories which is why I like to tell them to my children, too. My favorite has always been "The Tortoise and the Hare".
