@Kevin: Yeah, it does offer further insight into the possible logic of phone company pricing plans. (As well as insurance companies and other companies that sell effectively indistinguishable products.) Sticking with one service provider (as long as there aren't significant savings available by switching) is generally a good idea; why fix what isn't broken?

Damn! that explains a lot about phone companies. Confusopolies is very real and thanks a lot for explaining it. I always try to just choose one service provider and stick with them. I try to stay away from their policies as long as I am happy with the service.

@youngandthifty: Indeed, anytime you can turn the tables on a major corporation, or at least take advantage of their 'generosity', I vote that you do so. Hopefully, this post inspires more people to do just that. Stick it to the man, indeed!

Ahh! Great post! I agree 100%... Don't let these big cell phone companies take advantage of you, and instead take advantage of them!

They really do take advantage of the people who advocate for their needs. Cell phone bills for the exact same services vary too much! Like if someone got a good plan with retention, they could be paying $28. For the same plan if you DIDN'T talk to retention, it could be up to $50 a month.

Stick it to the man!
