@Rachel: Indeed, it seems to pervade all aspects of our lives. What we do well, we start to consider easy, while what we struggle with, we consider hard. Considering how much you need to do in order to do, well, anything (like walking or talking), it's easy to see how difficult life can get at times.

This is so true and not only in blogging. I am a pretty smart person and things I consider boring because they are so easy for me can be impossible for others to deal with.

I'll never forget the time I was training someone to replace me for my sick leave and I prefaced something I was training him in as very simple. He finally asked me to develop a flow chart and it was three legal pages long.

Meanwhile some things that other people take for granted I struggle with. My conclusion about the whole thing is to play to my strengths.

@Guy C: Glad to know that my titles are drawing some attention; I must be getting better at writing them. There are certainly things I used to think were hard that now seem rather easy. It's how we grow as people, I suppose. Good luck to you and your team as you build up your blog; it takes a while, but if you enjoy the work, it can be quite a ride.

@Ingrid: I adore Trent as well; I just wondered if perhaps his success made it harder for him to realize just how difficult blogging for money (at least, in the personal finance arena) can be (or perhaps, has become is a better way to put it). Having never written a book, I'll defer to his judgment on the relative ease of making money through that method. I just wanted to raise the question of whether being such a success gave him a different view on the ease of his success than the rest of us would have.

@FS: Very true; you'll hear all the time that 'anyone can do it', but of course, if that were really the case, you'd expect a lot more anyones to have done it. As for August, it sounds like you've already got quite a plan up your sleeve. Count me in; being part of the Yakezie has been one of the most fun things I've ever done, to say nothing of attention getting for my blog.

Mate, fantastic post and very thought provoking. It's easy for the successful guys to say "yeah it's so easy", but in reality, it ain't so much.

We know blogging takes hard work. Hopefully, with a new initiative I have come August, as part of The Yakezie, you'll be able to make that $100 much more quickly in your 2nd year!

Best,

Sam

I sometimes think people will tell you something is easy to do because they forget all the original pain they went through to become successful. Trent at the Simple Dollar(whom I adore) started before the wave of bloggers that there are now and had much less competition. As far as his comment about making more money from a blog that writing a book, it probably is true. Unless you are a international best seller most authors really don't make that much money from their books for the time and effort that they put into it. (Especially if they are handling their own publicity.)

Hey,

Well written. The title caught my eye and the rest was pretty thought provoking. I'm trying to think of all the things I find easy now, that might have been difficult a few years ago. Heck, I'm only 8 or 9 months in from coming on board to help my friend Brandon with his blog. We're a team of four now, and we're having a great time. The income is probably closer to that of the poor blogger right now, but it's a part of our business plan. We're building a business, as I'm sure you are, and these things take time, care and patience to do properly. Giving loads of free value along the road to gain people's trust.
Thanks for sharing,
Guy
