Roger, that was one of the best 'book reports' I've seen in awhile. Nice job. Kiyosaki's books have been growing in maturity and popularity. I think the more people that increase their financial intelligence, the better we'll all be. At http://www.MikeDillardTheElevationGroup.com we've been showing people how they can take information from economic history, and global problems now to position themselves for incredible wealth transfer. And it's as sound as any book of Kiyosaki's, because his personal investment advisor is who the members of Elevation Group get their info from. Pretty sweet.

@Money Reasons: I think you hit the nail on the head. He's definitely writing for the relatively small portion of the population, the would-be business owners and other highly motivated people. Although, given that he is, as he always is fond of writing, 'a best-selling author, not a best-writing author', he must be doing something to attract the masses.

I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, but with the book Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing, it was just too business oriented for me.

I don't think most of his books really work for the masses, but for the ultra A type personalities, this is fuel for the fire... So, even if I don't believe he is totally legit, I do believe he has value for the ultra A type personalities! And some of this stuff is a good read, especially "Rich Dad Poor Dad"...

Great review!!!

@youngandthrifty: He does tend to be rather unspecific, although he goes into much more detail and is generally more helpful in Cashflow Quadrant than in his first book (or in this book, for example); so far, Cashflow Quadrant has been my favorite of his books. As for his seminars, that's a whole other barrel of monkeys. I recall reading about it (on your site, I belief) where he claimed he had almost no clue what was going on in his seminars. Still, if you're going to put your name (or the 'Rich Dad' moniker) on just about every business venture even tangentially related to you, there's a good chance that something will go wrong at some point.

@Valerie: He does provide a different way of thinking about money, that much is true. I wrote in my review of 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' that listening to that audiobook was a major turning point in my financial life, how I thought about money and best way to get ahead in life. My biggest complaint is the lack of detail, particularly in this book, although by all accounts I've read, the 'Rich Dad's Advisors' series has all the needed details spelled out, with plenty of by the numbers advice. But then, maybe getting a different way of looking at money is enough for most people; it was for me.

Great Review and errr.... right on the money!

Kiyosaki will never win any literary award for his writing and it's not likely that the traditional money managers/bankers will give him a standing ovation for his guerilla tactics in developing personal wealth but they should.

I read his books years ago and a quick reread would probably do some good. The biggest thing I took away was a different way of looking at money, how to earn and respect it, how to manage it and how to leverage OPM.

What I like about Kiyosaki's books is that they are an introduction to a different mindset to money. I remember enjoying reading the books and they have forever changed my relationship with money.

Wow- comprehensive review!

I haven't had a chance to read the Cashflow Quadrant that I bought a few months ago, but I read his first book, and you're right, he has a knack of being vague and nonspecific.

I guess he's just good at speaking/ writing.

Did you hear about the Kiyosaki scam with his educational seminars? (it was featured on CBC Marketplace)
